I wanted to be an OTR driver, but I did a business analysis and decided that working for a food company money wise and quality of life wise was probably better. What the big killer was, was all the goofy OTR truck load carrier backwards over the top politics.
That being said though, while I run local routes and am home every day I would much rather be out on the road and last week I was helping are road division and while it's technically not OTR it isn't local either and I had an absolute ball running on the turnpike and doing the volume truck loads shhhh don't tell anyone I said that not supposed to have fun at work. You know hard for me to say, but I know what happens when you get an itch to do something and want to do it bad, sometimes you gotta scratch that itch.ExOTR, EverLuc, Bob Dobalina and 2 others Thank this. -
I miss the OTR driving, until I get my paycheck on Friday's and go to the bank.
Trying to run OTR and raise a family is hard, very hard. I was nearly divorced because of it. And my kids didn't know me when I came home. To say it bothered me would be an understatement. I hated being away. I really hated leaving, that was the worst. Once I got away from the house, I loved it like a Chinese hooker. But the toll on the family was too much. So I run local now.
I still get the itch to go back otr again, and fortunately this company has opportunities to go out for a few days at a time. Usually it's a great reminder of why I no longer do it. But I've noticed as time marches on, that desire fades a little more every year. I'm soon to the point where I want to quit driving altogether, but I haven't found a career that interests me.Rubberduckin, Big Don and Mike2633 Thank this.
