A few months ago my 2014 Volvo 780 with Cummins ISX 15 started having an intermittent howling noise. I mostly noticed it when I parked for the night after I revved up the idle. While checking for loose hoses, I found that the expansion tank (plastic tank on top of radiator) was leaking. It was cracked internally and had to be replaced. Now the noise is worse. It will sit at regular idle and run perfect but if you accelerate the howling sound starts. It is an even sound, no matter how high you rev the motor it will stay at the same pitch. It sounds like an air leak and loud enough that you can hear it a quarter of a mile away. It seems to be coming from the drivers side, back where the fire wall curves back into toward the cab. It has been in the Cummins shop with multiple techs and regional reps working on it with no results for three days. Ran motor without belts. Replaced the oil pump. Checked hoses and air lines for leaks. Any suggestions?????
Loud howling noise has Cummins Techs stumped.
