Now I am a company driver so I dont know how much company makes off if me. Everyone #####es how rates are low, etc but how are companies making it then? If it was that bad they'be laying off thousands of drivers.
Is it just bs like driver shortage?

I'd say they make, and I could be wrong, around .30-.60 per mile for each driver. CAKE

Big companies don't have to make as much per truck to operate.

At CEMEX we made $20/hr. plus perks. Let's call it $23. They charged a minimum of $150 freight plus fuel sur charge to deliver 1 to 3 yards of concrete. You got 8 minutes a yard to unload it once I hit the job. After that the stand by time was $2 minute. Saturdays was an extra $150 on any load. 4 yards and up the cost of trucking was built in the concrete.
They could pay me, and pay off a $165K mixer in one year, just in freight charges. They kept the mixers for 9 or 10 years on average.

How so? They still have to pay IFTA, registration, fuel, taxes, insurance, parts/tires AND pay driver on top of that-his insurance as well.
That is a lot of money per driver and they hope he doesnt damage freight or wreck truck

Because big companies can offset the loss of income with trucks in low paying freight areas with trucks in high paying areas. Every truck within that company basically has the same cost of operation. So a Truck in Phoenix that only has a .70cpm run available, can run that load to get to a better area, because whatever money is lost haul that cheap freight, is offset by the higher revenue generating trucks.
