Just run the rpms up a hair like any other and push button or pull toggle switch twice. Some have 18 autos triple up shift the same way.

This is why they have a manual mode, when going downhill, get in the safest gear for the grade, put the tranny in H (Hold) or M (Manual) position and it will hold that gear.

just from driving it, just as you'll learn the quirks of the tractor itself, the trans has quirks too.

1st to 3rd to 5th on the up shift, start off in first loaded, run the RPM's up to 1600 to 1800, have the trans in Manual position, hit the up button twice, run 3rd up to about 1800 then do it again. Sometimes I can do it again from 5th to 7th, but not always. Real fun is trying to get the auto trans to double downshift, they really aren't designed to do it, but with practice you can get it to do it, just don't try it when loaded heavy or going downhill

Instead of going through all the crap like holding gears up and down hills, double upshifting etc i think its easier just to drive a plain old manual.

Yeah for otr manual is the only way, but for local driving I love the autoshift.

I went to GATS Friday. It was empty compared to last year. Only saw 3 Petes, 3 Frgt Liners, and a few Macks. No KW or International displays. But the recession is over. Obambi says so.

most companies are doing away with manuals. Mack get's more orders for autoshifts than anything else. One of the local dirt haulers just ordered 35 new trucks, all with 450 hp and 13 spd autoshifts.

Manual = more control, gears controlled by the driver
Auto = gears decided by computer unless put into manual, little less control, little easier to drive easier on the knee.
