There are now 2 confirmed fatalities in one of the rigs.

    http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/traffic/2016/12/03/two-killed-mecca-crash/94880880/
Two people are dead after a big rig rolled over on Interstate 10 near Cactus City early Saturday morning, according to Cal Fire.

Just after 5 a.m., firefighters responded to westbound I-10 near milepost 10-73, where a semi-truck had overturned, killing both of the people inside. The victims' names have yet to be released.

The cause of the crash has yet to be released and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

The Riverside County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team and county environmental health officials responded to remove a diesel fuel spill that resulted from the crash.

According to the CHP Dispatch log there are numerous rigs overturned, they and CalFire at 5:46 AM were moving additional assets into the area as they had more rigs they had not been to, and were discovering more.

There's windy. Then there's pretty windy. Then there's bad wind. Then there's oh hell no wind. I have a suspicion some massive wind gusts came from an otherwise manageable high wind environment. Kind of like a rouge super-wave.

Always keep your cell phone and wallet on your person when weather gets very dangerous. Makes it easier for you and first responders when things take a turn for the worst.

I was going Eastbound on I-10 in Southern California this morning past the Cactus City Rest Area going down the hill towards Frontage Road at about 05:10.

I saw a Semi Truck blown over in the median with all it's lights still on about halfway down the hill. I believe this one just happened a few minutes before I crested the top of the hill at the East Bound Rest Area.

A Westbound Truck was already stopped to assist the driver in the median.

I then saw some activity on the Westbound exit of Frontage Road. That's where a Covenant Driver and Co Driver/ Passenger's Semi Truck was blown over and they both lost their lives.

There was alot of trucks parked on the Westbound and Eastbound Frontage Road exit and on ramps, probably waiting out the wind storm.

I have been driving in California for 17 years and never saw the wind as fierce as this morning in that particular area.

Alot of the drivers going Eastbound, (including myself) just slowed our roll until the wind let up by Chiriaco Summit.

R.I.P. to the two Covenant Drivers who lost their lives today.

Be safe everyone and live each day like it's your last!!!!!!

There was also a rollover right at the frontage road exit. I pulled over on the on ramp, CHP had the entrance blocked for obvious reasons

I believe that was the one that had the two fatalities.

It was so dark I only saw the two I mentioned, was there more than that in that stretch of road?
