Actual conversation I had with a driver applicant today:

Me: so, why are you looking to leave your current employer?
Him: when my truck was in for service a few weeks ago he had them set the speed governor.
Me: oh, just so you know, all my trucks have the governor set, too, to 67.
Him: oh that's ok. My boss set my truck to 80 and I'm sick of him disrespecting me like that.

I'm guessing there's more to the story but I thought you guys would get a kick out of that.

I had a rule when I had drivers that if they got a speeding ticket in a personal car they would have the truck set to 68 for 90 days and if they got a ticket in a company truck it would be 62 for a year. We had to do it to one guy and you'd have thought we had stripped him nude and whipped him raw with a salt soaked rope the way he complained. He even called the company headquarters and spoke to the co. president about being mistreated. But that was the only driver out of about 24 drivers I had in 5 years that ever got a ticket. They knew it was no joke.

But 80 is disrespect? Now that's funny. Almost makes you feel sorry for him for being clueless.

I would of told you not interested as soon as you told me 67.70 is my minimum not that I'm a speed demon but if I want to pass I expect to be able to and don't like running in a pack with mega's.

Actually, I have cruise max 67 and pedal max 68. I don't think that's too bad. Especially in new England where the limits are 65.

I don't mind having a governed (cruise) speed of 70. My last truck was 72. But I'd like to have the pedal set to 75. I don't want to be spending a entire year trying to pass someone.

Freightliner sets cruise to 70 and pedal to 65 i beleive it WAS. Before the boss upped it. They also allowed a passing mode in the ecm. Pump the pedal 3 times and you could go an extra 10 mph faster. You got 1 hours worth every 24 hours.
