From what I have read the 2008 - 2010 emission trucks are the worst of the bunch. Personally I think you are throwing good money after bad if you continue to spend on it. Trading down or up is the option I would look at. Let it become someone else's headache.

Like I said earlier and knew it would come up this has been argued many times before, and it is always about dealers and shops making the modifications to sell the product to the end user modified. It is not a about the owner of the equipment, Rank is correct in saying they may write you a $700.00 fine but big poopy dah, you will save that in fuel, maintenance cost, and downtime. I guess I should worry about the big bad G's telling me what I may or may not do with my own house as well. The only thing we have to fear is the G's themselves not abiding by the same laws that they write.

It's the fine AND having to restore the removed emissions equipment.

That would hurt enough to bring on a tear......

Don't plan on selling my trucks until they are dead, and then I will sell them for salvage and just through all those parts that are in boxes into the floor and watch it roll to the salvage yard.

$700 is just the first offense. The fines go up for repeat offenders.

I read the entire code several times, it sure looks like the code was intended for manufacturers, importers, dealers, and repair facilities. Everything says "to be sold to the end user"... I am the end user and none of those codes say anything about me doing anything to a truck that I own. I may be wrong but as long as I do the modifications myself and don't ever sell the truck, it looks like I can do what I want. The EPA my see it differently but if they can't get it put into the Code, then I just ignore them (I've done it before with OSHA). https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/42/7522

Thanks for posting that, I have said the same thing as you and even posted the same law quip as well. I used to work in law and know exactly how they write the blurbs to confuse and make it read how the majority will perceive it to be.

Google SAE J1667.... That's the test procedure and sets the fines for failing emission tests.....in NY at least...... I think it's federal though. Also you can check out my 3406b failed emissions thread. I've been through this
