Looking for my 1st truck. A 379exhd. I hear good things between the N14 red top and the 3406E. Need help comparing reliability, fuel savings, easier to repair. Thanks!

N14 is easier and cheaper to repair compared to a cat. Both good motors.

    550EXHD Thanks this.

The CAT would be more expensive to overhaul for sure, but both are great motors.

I doubt you'll see fuel savings with either. You hauling open deck?

    550EXHD Thanks this.

I wish I had went with something more aerodynamic. I love my Detroit, I'm right at 6.8 mpg on all miles.

    Man that's good miles!!

  10. Freightliner with Detroit. If your pulling a box. Easier to fix and find parts.

Cetane+, icsheeple and 550EXHD Thank this.

Flip a coin. Can't go wrong with either.

    I run a '00 W900L N14. Open deck and its consistently 6.5 mpg.
