    Radio: Cobra 29
Coax: clear 6 foot mini-8 with 16 guage stranded center conductor (x2)
Antenna: browning 78 6 ft whip with coil at the bottom.(x2)

So I hooked everything up and it powered on and as soon as I hit the key button on the mic it blew the fuse. It's a different power cord because I lost my other stock one so I'm using a 3 pin, 2 wire fused power cord 16 guage copper. Not sure if that has something to do with it. Fuse is 250v.

Anyone have advice on what to do? It's a Mack truck.

Couple of questions what size fuse are you using, and has anything been done to the radio?

I am shooting from the hip, but I think fuses are rated by amp. I think standard amp rating is 3 to 5 amp for the power cord. I am pretty sure I have installed a 10 amp fuse before to stop blowing fuses with no problem.

I had it peaked and tuned a while ago. The amp is a 2A. I turn the radio on and they just literately spark and blow everytime.

Well a peak and turned radio depending on how it was sure up requires a min 5 amp fuse. I would find a 7 amp. That's should cure your issue

    RogerThat72 Thanks this.

Sometimes when the power cord is plugged into the back of the radio, it creates a 90 degree hard "pinch". Sometimes that hard pinch will cause the power cord to short out. If you continue to blow fuses, I would try using another power cord.(New)

Who tuned the radio? That's probably the source of your problem.
