I've accepted a 33K lb load from Nephi, UT to Houston.
I'll be taking I-15/I-70 to 191 down through MOAB and 491 into Shiprock.
Question: Is it better, with that weight, to stick with 491 down to Gallup NM onto I-40 and Albuquerque OR is it better to take Hwy 64 out of Shiprock and take 550 down to Albuquerque????
550 looks like it could be sketchy.
I'll continue on past Albuquerque on I-40 to Amarillo then on down 287.

I would stick with US-491 to I-40 to US287, the road is mostly straight with a few small hills. It's a good road for big trucks.

6 of one half dozen of the other ... 64/550 is mostly 4 lane US highway ... the biggest stumbling block is the urban traffic through the Farmington/Bloomfield metroplex.

I'd follow thru and route thru Clovis, NM. & Lubbock, Tx. Also, moves along nice.

Thanks everyone for your insight.
Because of Swifts chincy fueling I'll have to take 491 to Gallup to reop at the Loves. I won't have enough to make it to the Loves on I-25 north of Albuquerque if I take 550.
The original route they gave me was so stupid I just blew it off.
Thanks again all!!! -

Can't you Swifties just take a different route and then have them authorize fuel at a different stop? 550 will save you time and don't worry about the Farmington, NM traffic, take the truck route around the city.
