Im a Company driver Passing into NM on 40 and at Weigh Station told to park and bring registration into building. Get inside and girl behind the counter says "Permit"? I go "Ah Whut"!! $60 for trip permit that expires in a couple days for traveling thru. What's this all about? Does this need to happen everytime you pass thru? Is it hit or miss that they bring you in to check registration for permit paid? Company will reimburse me but just curious about it. Been going thru NM for 3yrs, 1st this has happened.

Are you oversized? Are you actually only registered to run 37 eastern states and not the 11 western states or all 48? That's the only two reasons I can think of off the top of my head you would need a permit.

New Mexico has that HUT(Weight distance) .....If You aren't filing quarterly returns with NM, (registered) They'll make you park in back and Pay the Weight distance Tax on how many miles you choose to run through

really not a big deal...The people that work in there are pretty Nice. There not making much, believe me.

You can get an annual permit with them and then file as required. Much cheaper than paying everytime you pass through.

Oregon, new Mexico, are toll states. Sorta speaking. You have to pay the toll to run through. Unless your company has an account. To which the toll is cheaper. Why companies don't have accounts is beyond me. If running through fairly often.

NY too...the toll is not cheaper than tracking your own non toll laden miles and filing online. Actually I don't you have a choice in NY.....you run off pike miles....you file HUT period...

Nowadays, if you run apportioned tags you are good for all 49 states and Canada, at least that's what TN has went to, I assume it's that way everywhere.

Now I've never been out West but I assume it's kind of like the KYU tax in KY. They tax you above and beyond what IRP money they get through your registration.

You'd think they would just get the extra fees through IRP or IFTA rates and not have to deal with a extra permit.
