New SCR DD15 vs ISX15

    These are the two engine what I am considering in my new truck. I know there is a good number of hater out there after the 2004-2010 disaster, but let's be optimistic, and hope, it is over. The DD15 seems a slightly better on fuel, around 1%. Of course Detroit claim 5%, but no one experienced that much. Basically this is a Mercedes engine, with lot of outside fuel lines and stuff, by the time I will buy, it will have a brand new II. generation common rail fuel system, a brand new asymmetric (twin) turbo, and an electrically controlled water pump. This latest sounds the scariest for me. Of course they claim 5% fuel economy gaining again. This engine available only in Daimler products. Since I am looking for an aero truck, I have one choice, Cascadia. Which is not bad truck, but I do not really like in many ways. My heart goes for the new KW T680 which is available only with Cummins. The MX not an option for me. Cummins will be unchanged from the 2010 version, only small updates here and there, on sensors, ECU, and like this, a lower friction water pump and they claim 2-3% fuel economy gain.
    I would appreciate any useful experience and information.

    Well i can't say too much on the engines i would pay the little bit extra an go for the t680 while its not kenworths best built truck it''s gonna be built alot better then the cascadia and hold up better over the long term i took a 2012 cascadia brand new off the lot and after putting 25,000 km on it the cabinets in the back were already starting to shake an rattle, the base kenworth seats are also way more comfortable then any freightliner seat iv ever sat in, i just checked the truckpaper for the prices on both trucks and there not much difference in price i think you'd be glad in the long run that you spent the extra for a better built and not as cheap looking on the inside truck.

    I'v been trying to figure out the specs and type of truck i want to buy and to get an idea on fuel economy i got searching around mygauges.com sign up for the free account and you can see what other guys are getting with there truck some guys list there spec's weights and were they fuel to see how it would compare to what you do.

    I would say the DD15. Everyone seems to have less issues with the Detroits. From what I read, they use a regular turbo now vs. what you were talking about or VGT's.

    If I had to choose between the two I would get the KW with the Cummins.

    kw deletes are available when problems appear after warranty. my crapcadia wont touch the cummins after deletes were done on them fuel or powerwise

    You had a Detroit once, get a Detroit again. Personally, I like the Century. Why not just buy a glider? Get yourself a good pre-EGR Detroit S60 like some members have done.

    Why do you think that you can only get the Cummins in a KW T680? It's absolutely available with a Paccar MX. I just drove the MX 455HP in a new T680 on Wednesday.

    I am sorry to confuse you Sir, what I said,, not an option for me. I meant, I would not consider, because this Europian DAF engine is totally unprooven here. But I would be more than happy to hear your impression about the truck itself. I have had no luck to see one since the Mid America Truck Show, nor hear any response from first hand.

    The MX is slowly starting to prove itself. The 2011 MX was crap but they fixed a lot of things for 2012 my company is running 8 of them 4 are around 300k with out any trouble yet 3 are at 100k with no problems that iv heard of the last one is brand new so we will see how that one turns out. paccar has for my company anyway been really good at keeping us up todate on any recalls and ECM update so things don't start going bad. My biggest complaint is they don't have a 15ltr so power and torque is a little lacking but for the little guy it is it pulls strong and gets good fuel economy
