They recently changed a 38 mile stretch of I-20 here in the Odessa/Midland area from 75 MPH to 65 MPH permanently. This starts from the west at Moss Ave (Exit# 108) to approximately 4 miles east of the east BI-20 ( Exit #144) going towards Stanton. there is also multiple construction zones at 55 MPH in the area, Thanks to multiple over height loads hitting our overpasses and requiring replacement.

Kenny Vader and KB3MMX Thank this.

So hitting an overpass at 65 was the solution?

A little late to reduce the limit through there, but better late then never, I guess. With the oil crash, traffic activity there is half what it was 18 months ago. The equipment rental places have every single piece of inventory on their lot and their lots are overflowing and they're having to rent and fence and secure land to bring in the rest of the rental equipment and secure it until they can transfer or sell at least some of it off. Lot's of people there scratching their head wondering WTH happened?

The road construction is separate from the speed limit change. I just wanted to mention that inside the 65 zone we have multiple construction zones at 55

We still have the service and production traffic, not the exploration and drilling traffic, whcih has dipped but not as much as you think it would.. It has been hectic here

Good. They also needed a third lane in each direction as well. Workover rigs doing 40-45 versus hotshot guys trying to do twice that, and merging traffic really sucked through there. Lots of fatals, I had more than a few close calls myself.
I do remember seeing a forklift on a flatbed hit the overpass right near Walmart, it was a mess.

Yup I was driving truck by that accident. We do need 3 lanes. West Texas is getting ready for one way service roads in the coming year like the east part of the state.
