I just got a 1997 379 with an n14. Previous owner swapped out a broke 18 speed for an older 15 speed with lo-lo. I noticed the tach wasn't working and found no sensor on bellhousing nor a hole for it. What can I do to have a functional tach again?

Look all around for the hole it may be on side or top, if its so old of a trans that it did not have the hole you can drill one an install the old one out old trans?
-
I will look on the side in the morning. I can drill and tap a hole. That's not a problem. Just not sure where exactly to put it.
Thanksbaha Thanks this. -
Shouldn't the speed sensor for the tach be in the engine flywheel housing, not the transmission bell housing?
-
Is it on the block? I thought it was on the bellhousing?

No northern mechanic is ridgt if they just swapped out the trans then tach pick up shouldn't be affected. It reads off the flywheel teeth.

Okay I'm about to go out there and do some work on the truck anyway so I'm going to look it over a real good again and check

Sometimes there is a plastic plug screwed in the hole

Would it be at the bottom? There are two large threaded holes at the bottom, one straight down and one off to the passenger side at an angle? These are both about the same size as the speedo sensor on the rear transmission

The one off to passenger side
