EXTREME fire danger in areas of southern plains for Tuesday April 5, 2016. "Extreme" is not used very often. So please do your part to not exacerbate a bad situation by throwing out lit cigarettes in these areas where high winds, warm/hot temps, dry air, and dry vegetation all converge. day2otlk_fire.gif

Hubby was down in KS yesterday. Stopped at a TS for a break, and noticed a new Navigator with the hood up. As he got closer to the building, the man driving asked him to look at the vehicle. It was a couple with two small children in car seats in the back. They thought their vehicle was shorting out somewhere and going to catch fire. Hubby told them about the fires and assured them the vehicle is fine. They hadn't thought about wildfires, but after hubby told them about it, the lady commented about the smell being stronger when they would crest a hill. LOL

Real bright folks. I can understand, to a point, thinking there might be a problem with the vehicle after smelling smoke. However, they thought the vehicle might catch on fire and left their 2 children strapped inside it. People never cease to amaze me. The movie idiocrasy has indeed foretold the future.

Some states have specifically included cigarette butts as "litter", and can write you a big 'ol ticket for flicking one out the window...so it's generally a good idea to keep that crap in your vehicle to be disposed of properly. That's why your cars & trucks have ash trays. If you're going to smoke, USE THEM!

In Illinois on your 3rd time being caught tossing a cigarette out its a Class D felony that comes with a 25k fine...

I doubt many people get caught 3 times, but like anything else there's always at least one fool...
