oil field companies?

You are over a year late, I wouldn't recommend going into the patch as of right NOW , wait a couple more month.

It is really slow lately with most people no even reaching 40hs per week.
The last day i worked was May 8th ... been on call since then , and no work. (granted this is a bit extreme and more due to the yard itself). But talk to other people and see what they say.

If you still want to go for it, then I would suggest big players, like Select Energy, Nabors/C&J, Basic Energy, Lighthouse, Key Energy.
Also most of the action is centered around NM - ie Hobbs, Jal, Carlsabd and far West Texas, Pecos

 

Not gonna lie and say we have tons of hours, but pinnergy in big lake is still working on average 50-60hrs per week. 5/2 schedule. May work 4 out of 5 shifts per week. All new people start on night shift. They also offer housing

 

Pay is dropping for crude hauling, and competition for loads is growing, which puts downward pressure on pay to the drivers... And there are many drivers with tanker experience who have had to relocate to stay working, meaning there are more people chasing fewer jobs.

The oil patch is a boom bust cycle, always has been.

Also the boom bust cycle moves from region to region, it does not hit everyone at the same time.

Good luck, and do not believe anyone saying as a present van driver, that you will be making big money in the oil fields to start. The top crude hauling companies won't hire a 1 year otr van driver. You will have to find a company willing to take the chance, on you, and most of those are the water companies.
