For those not familiar with the Pacific Northwest, flooding can be a very real problem, and since we get so much rain every year, the trees around here don't have a real deep root base, because they don't have to search for water. That can lead to higher probability of trees coming down. There are multiple fatalities every year due to trees falling on cars. Also, due to our hilly terrain, landslides are frequent problem as well.

The more dangerous parts of the first system is starting to come onshore and impacting the Oregon/Washington coastal area near the mouth of the Columbia River ... Possible winds of 80 MPH blowing around hail and graupel? That's not good. And the storm relative motion is nearing 65 MPH! The rains have been ongoing a while so grounds will be soft and trees/branches will be broken and/or uprooted so keep an eye out on tree-lined roads in the SW Washington regions.

The Portland station is reporting a tornado event happened in downtown Manzanita. Funny to hear the people say "I've never heard a tornado warning before and didn't know what it was". It originated as a waterspout then moved onshore. They were fortunate the winds and storm motion were so fast that any tornadic event damage was "quick and dirty". But wind damage and lost power is going to be the more widespread problem across the region.

Well, so much for making it to Ellensburg by end of my clock day. Still sitting at a shipper in S Everett that is having production problems (10:00 appt, now 13:30 and not yet started). May end up pulling out of here with my eLog screaming at me. (Ask me if I give a dam) 5 miles to a hotel I'm familiar with.
Guess I'll be pulling out of the Seattle area and headed east across 90, Saturday morning, maybe in between systems. Better be a nice tailwind across WA, or I'm gonna be mad.Last edited: Oct 14, 2016
