I just bomb mine with rustoleum black gloss. $5 a can.
I'm sure there are way better and thicker paints but it works good for the cheap cost.

    truckerbangin Thanks this.

Sandblast and good primer is the key, the best paint in the world is a waste of money if the prep isn't right.

If your just looking to stop rust and don't care so much about looks, a product called POR15 works quite well.

Can you just put POR15 over rust. Would it be best to wire brush loose stuff then treat the rust with a rust killer like rust mort? I'm talking about for a guy like me who doesn't have a sand blaster just wants to put some paint on the frame. Doesn't have to be pretty just want it to look marginally better than frame rails with no paint at all, solid rust already.

I knocked off all the loose stuff with a wire brush and power washed the frame . I then used tremclad semi gloss black paint and applied it with a spudz gun ( I think that's how it's spelled) at about 25 or 30 psi. I only had to do from the back of the cab to the rear mud flaps.
