The only times that I have had to pay a pilot to come to me was in Nevada and I had to get pilots outta Cali to go up into Oregon just a 270 mile trip so they charged me 65 cents a mile deadhead to get to me. Right now I've got trucks working on a project from Houston to northern PA and I pay the pilots 1.35 a mile and then they deadhead back to Houston to meet my guys for another round they say it's the best money they've ever made. As far as pilots around home base goes I usually just use my own guys in WY, MT, SD, and ND since those states don't require any certifications. Two years ago I was working on a project from Wyoming to PA and tried to use my own people on a couple loads. I figured out that it was costing me 1000 dollars per load more to use my own people than it cost to just hire the work out so since then I just hire pilots.

Thanks for all of the responses....
I had three pilots for my load.....
From Grand Junction, CO to the UT line.....
UT and NV did not require escorts since I ran the interstates with this load....
Through AZ I needed one to run the gorge and had to be in St. George before 11:30....
NV I had to stop before MM 33 until Monday morning....
CA was from state line to Otey...
The CA rate was $1.50/m...
Grand Jct to UT line was $75...
Running in AZ cost me $100.....
First load I had that I required escorts....That was the easy part....It took almost 6 hours to get the load off since the receiver did have the proper equipment to unload....SHC Thanks this. -
Hey Ron -
What were the dimensions on the load?

Not a problem...At least with strobes, you can run at night. Unlike NM and AZ...Both of those states are still stuck in the 60's when it comes to OD loads..... -
In Cali....That was a whole 'nother story.....##### 4-Wheelers don't know what to do with a big load.....
RedRover Thanks this.
