I only stopped there once, but if I remember correctly they had some crazy gravel hill that you had to exit out of.

Minooka Pilot has a specific way in and back out to I-80, and it has been changed to reduce traffic jams by encouraging traffic to go right out of the lot and then turn left on another road and make another left at a light.

The big problem is that it's close, and traffic is heavy, and someone backing into a spot stops everyone going out using the intended pattern for the duration, causing the impatient to take measures like pulling a U-turn and driving back out through the scale(really bad), or the fuel island, which has no bypass lane.Peak times for fueling tend to take lots of time just waiting out the jam up.

The nearest Pilot alternative at Channahan, is bad except for that the amount of traffic is reduced comparatively, and you can't turn left out of the gate to get back on I-57. No showers, but it does have a Duncan's inside along with Subway.

That's not an alternative, that is a horrible choice... You'll be waiting forever to fuel and then depending on your direction your heading be putting extra time on your commute with the local bears pulling you over for making the left turn... Heading south on 55 has much better choices to fuel not to far...

Timing is everything. If you're out of hours , out of fuel, and on e-logs, at the right time of day(before the evening rush and before or after the morning rush, you can use this place easier than some others, like in New Jersey..

As far as that forbidden left turn, you turn right and run a couple of miles to get back to 80, nothing to it. You have to go farther and much longer time to turn left in NYC or in much of NJ. That turn is no problem at all if you don't try to do it..

If you like casinos, the old Empress riverboat(Hollywood Joliet) is about 2 more miles on the right. If they haven't decided to run the trucks out.;)
It really is a river boat .
