can anyone here tell me if it's nessasary to pre trip an empty truck. When I was out with my trainer he showed me to do pre trip with loading and post trip with unloading when we arrived at the customer the night before and that it wasn't needed to do a pre trip in the morning before we rolled out. Is this correct or does every trip need to start with a pre trip. One of my company safety people has told me this is wrong and to pre trip empty. I've tried looking it up in the FMCSA rule book but I'm either missing it or getting lost in the wordy description of it.

That trainer has no business training or even being behind the wheel at all -
Always ....... Always ....... do a pre-trip!
BigGrumpy, TruckDrivingtn, shortcut and 1 other person Thank this. -
Pre and post, if hooked to same trailer a good post and then a lights and tires pre should do it.
-
Pretrip at the beginning of your shift, post trip at the end. EVERY DAY!

Nah, you don't need to Pretrip a truck. If something is wrong you'll find out once you start rolling. Don't need to tug test when coupling a trailer either. It's either connected or it's not.

Maybe I need to be more specific. Yes the truck and trailer get a thorough walk around every morning while unloading. My question is does a pre trip need to be logged once unloaded and is there a specific part of the rule stating this. Sarcasm isn't nessasary. I'm needing helpful info not a know it all sarcastic reply.

Pre and post everyday or every trailer change

And log it. It you didn't log it, you didn't do it.
