This radio is about 7 years old. It has no modifications. I hooked it up right out of the box. I came back from vacation 2 weeks ago and it seemed dead. No sound coming out of the speaker though it would light up. Another driver used my truck while I was gone so I figured he flipped some switch. After stopping I got all the buttons back where they should be. Still no sound but the meter was working and when I keyed the mike it would move like it does when you talk.
I then turned the talk back button on and started hearing static in the speaker. I never had talk back turned on before. With TB on everything works but at a much reduced volume and with distortion. I have to turn the volume all the way up where before half way would be twice as loud as now. It works on bluetooth as well but the callers voice is distorted.
Any ideas? Is this an easy cheap repair or am I better off getting a new CB at around $100. I really like the Bluetooth function for hands free phone calls. Got one of those head sets and despise it. I don't talk much on the CB but always run it for back up reports ahead of time.

Whatever you do, don't "upgrade" to the digital version. I bought the original when it came out and loved it. Bought the digital one for the caller ID function, and it kicks the call back to the phone 10 seconds or so after I answer an incoming call and I have to hit the bluetooth button again to get the call back to the CB. Annoying as hell, and if I can find a "classic" BT radio again, new in the box, I'm going back to it.
That and the silly thing has a mind of its own...every once in a while, it kicks itself over to the weather band, and when it does that, it disconnects the BT. Has to be in CB mode to be connected with the phone.wsyrob Thanks this. -

Thanks for the advice against buying a new one. I stopped at the CB shop on I-85 at the 160 in Ga. You have probably heard him talking as you drive by. Calls himself stargazer.
Good guy. He worked on it for about an hour. Finally found a broken wire in the mic cord. He cut it, soldered it back together and it works good as New for $25.
If you ever get by there he also has close to 700 knives for sale in that little shop.
