Installing new rear light assembly on truck. I failed inspection because the reverse lamps stopped working. I understand that I need to replace the reverse switch which is located on the transmission. Is this the reverse lamp switch? I searched all over to get and idea of where to find it on the tranny and what it looked like.
Is this it? Eaton Fuller Transmission

Looks too low on the tranny to be a backup switch?
You can always back probe the wire for 12V. Put it in reverse with the key on. Find your 12V and then take it out of reverse, but leave the key on and see if the 12V disappears. Then you know you have the right one. Even check that connector hanging there. If you do find the right one, run a jumper across the connector and see if the reverse lights come on, then you know for sure it's the switch and not the wiring.
What tranny do you have?
What's that on the left side of the picture? The big crack. Doesn't look good. -
reverce light is on with LCM unit. so check LCM for codes.
Ok, with manual tranny switch is used but this swith is connected to LCM.
It you have auto, any auto, I-shift for example, reverse light is actuated with J1939!
so use VCADs pro to check sw8080 Thanks this. -
