I bought this trailer at auction for $1,200:
http://www.bidspotter.com/en-us/auc...0049/lot-4ee0f17e-57e8-4eea-8ce7-a4ed00fafcd6
It is in Iowa and I am based in Illinois.
The problem is that they will give me the title during pick-up. So, at the time of pick-up it will not yet be registered or insured in my name.
Can I send my driver to pick it up and drive it from IA to IL, and use the title and purchase documents to explain why there is no license plate? Would that be legal as a "fresh purchase"? I know that it is legal for cars.
It would be driven/towed without any cargo.
Thanks
Purchased semi flatbed trailer, can we drive it home without plates?

you can do anything you want until you get caught
can't you just have the title overnighted to you then register it
a fine for a $1200 trailer might be more then it is worthlots of character Thanks this. -
Is it possible to get a 14 day in transit permit for the trailer to get it home?

Good grief, I would've tried to get that at scrap price.

It really depends on the state. Florida does not issue temp tags for commercial trucks so I drove it home with a bill of sale. Luckily I didnt have to go too far. Its best if you check with the local tag office in the state you made the purchase and contact your tag office and see if they issue temp tags.

It's tough buddy . if you got the moolah to fix it up and deck it, right on.

What I was going to do with this trailer is, rip out the wood, and pay a particular company to add a "gondola" or "open top" box on top of the flatbed frame, to make it into a scrap gondola trailer.
So, as you can imagine, I am very anxious myself about the condition of this trailer and mostly, whether the frame is solid enough to convert it into a gondola.
Pictures of wood are not that good looking. Pictured of metal look not bad, surprisingly for the age of this trailer. The tires look bad.
I will report on its actual condition once I get it.
