I have a Qualcomm installed on my truck from the company I'm leased on to. I have an opportunity to "moonlight" and make more money, but it's only for a run like once a week. It's substantial enough that it makes it worth it. A mid-week run with the current company pays only half as much. There is also a potential of being able to get more dedicated runs from the moonlight job.
My question is, how to disable to Qualcomm? Just unplugging the keyboard probably does not disable the satellite tracking from the dome. Not sure, though.
I have heard someone say to put a metal bucket on it, but if I'm up there, I'm just going to unplug the dome instead of having a bucket on it.
I can also just unplug it from the fuse panel I guess.
For those who might ask, yes, I do have my own authority and own my own truck. I have a magnetic sign with my DOT # that covers up their entire logo/DOT #. I would not run others loads under their authority, and will not be using their equipment in any way.
Qualcomm-how to hide from big brother?

If I had my own truck, plates, authority, and insurance, I'd try this myself. I'd unplug the unit and go running. The only problem I see here is the wagon. Is it your company's or yours? If it's yours, I wouldn't even unplug the Q-Comm unit. I'd just head on down and do the moonlight run. Just cover your company's name. Screw what they say.
If the wagon belongs to your company, that may be a problem.
It's my "wagon" (and it's not little and red).
I have heard of other drivers getting their lease terminated for running on their own. I don't know all the details of whether they bothered to cover up the DOT with their own or not.
I have magnetic stick ons that cover their entire logo and DOT. My own DOT is on the stick on. My company name is already on the door.
During the middle of the week, the runs they offer are crap. Short hauls that are hell on your fuel mileage (and truck), and pay after expenses isn't really worth it. I know they play the favoritism game, but nothing I can do about it. The best paying loads go out to certain people, and they call out the short hauls with backhauls (that you get stuck at for 4 or more hours) so they can get rid of them.
I have opportunity to get in good with this other place. If I perform well for them, I can get a few loads a week that would equal out to working 4, 5, or 6 loads for my current lease. I guess if they catch on and terminate my lease I can go to one of the 50 other places that's hiring, right?
Sounds like companies that terminate leases for "independent" excursions are trying to set examples. They don't want competition from O/Os who may, on a run like you're thinking of doing, learn a secret or two about how much loads REALLY pay, which loads are cherry, and which are not so desirable. This is because a company you're leased onto will stick you with the garbage and keep the apple-pie loads for themselves. If you start running through the woods late at night, this boat will get rocked for sure.
Also, if you go on one of these runs, you become a de-facto "competitor" of your company. Yeah, they'll probably terminate your lease if you do a moonlight run and they find out about it.
But of course, this means I MYSELF would definitely try it. If companies are so set on keeping O/Os away from certain runs, you know you wanna get in on that pie, boy. Yeah, I'd sneak into that party and try to learn what they're hiding from me (and you).
Ummmm, easy, when i want to be stealth like i simply cover the qualcomm antenna with the cover to a pan i use to cook....
I have one of those "turbo cookers" in my truck, due to it being a cheap pos that my old lady was willing to part with. The cover is domed shaped and fits perfectly over the antenna, and at a long glance looks like it belongs.
In order to disable the qualcomm you need to make sure all power to it is stopped. That may be tricky as i am sure that the harness probably is made such that there is no easy disable.
I have also seen truckers with plastic bowls lined with tinfoil, this blocks signal too.
First time i needed to block signal I used tinfoil.
i DONT BLOCK SIGNAL TO GO PLACES I AM NOT ALLOWED, I BLOCK SIGNAL DURRING DAY WHEN I AM TRYING TO SLEEP, AS THE GD QUALCOMM WONT STOP BEEPING FOR STUPID THINGS. LIKE THE FUEL PRICE FOR O/O OR TOP 10 O/O'S STOP SENDING ME STUPID MESSAGES!!!!!marmon96 Thanks this.
