Shopping around for a used van. Why are some trailers in good shape sold as storage trailers only?

Probably because they either aren't really in such good shape or they have registration issues.

Ok, so is there anything I should look out for when looking at a used trailer?
Like flatbed trailers have 2 steel beams, but vans don't, so just wondering can a loaded forklift break the trailer or something?

Yes, it can. I did not slide my tandems once while unloading paper load and bam! Left rear side of the trailer got damaged, bent down

I've personally dropped a forklift thru the floor of a crappy trailer, pretty scary to say the least.

No, $1200 repair, it did not damage the floor

Yes. The right forklift can make the floor sink or even collapse. Your customer will be pissed if that happens.
Among other things, you need to inspect the cross members underneath the floor to make sure they are not bent or broken. You need to check the roof for holes. Avoid fiberglass roofs. They are hard to repair like a Corvette.

If I were you, I would go to some trailer repair shop and hire one of their techs to check out a trailer for you when he is off work.
