Any owner/operators out there rent or lease trucks on a 'as-needed' basis? For example, you only want to run a few months out of the year and then give the truck back. Or run a week here or a week there and not be a slave to a company or lease. Maybe running for Landstar or some similar 'load boards' at one's own leisure. Is this doable?

Don't know, but I am looking at renting a truck about twice a month to run into California because old reliable is not compliant. From what Penske told me, it would work ok, unless there's not a truck available.

Too expensive. Had to rent when my truck was in the shop, over $400 with fuel for 2.5 days through RWC

I got a quote for 2012 Pit 386
monthly 2600
mile 0.09
plus tax (10%)
what do you think ? is a good deal. I'm planing to rent for 2-3 month maybe longer -
Dose that include maintenance? What about a trailer too? Better be a LOT of good paying freight during thoese 2 months. Plus a years worth of cargo and liability insurance? Probly pencil out to over $10k a month before you even start the truck?

also 2290 is about $550 + probate $2000 thats like 200 a month.
I own a trailer
so I figured my cost to rent a truck is 0.34 (12,000 miles)
