Volvo 770 13 speed with Cummins N14. Driving today and rpm go high without acceleration and then drop down. What can be the problem? I had a shop install a new injector yesterday, but dont know if it can be connected to the problem. The truck ran fine for 300 miles this morning, but then this thing started.

Was this on pedal or cruise?
You sure the clutch isn't starting to slip?
    See any smoke?

Both, pedal and cruise, no smoke. I am not sure about the clutch, never had one going out on me...

Ours did that a few weeks ago. Was scared the trans. was going. It was slipping in and out of gear but we couldn't tell that. It was the air valve that actuates for high range was not holding. Claim colder weather makes them do that. Replaced and good to go. Was scary.

If the rpm went up, but the truck did not accelerate, then the clutch was slipping.
If the rpm gauge went up, bit it didn't sound like the engine changed its tune any, then it may just be the crankshaft sensor.

It's called a Accelerator Position Sensor, which could be bad and/ or the Accelerator Pedal itself, which with use and age starts getting worn and gets play in it, so the Sensor doesn't read that it has returned to the 0 position. That's why there is a delay in your throttle response.

If you buy a new Pedal the APS (Accelerator Position Sensor is included too.
