It's not about the mileage, it is about how much weight it can handle and how long it will run with that weight. I wouldn't even consider a 2500 (aka 3/4 ton) truck to haul anything other than a small trailer.

I understand "the bigger, the better" is the rule.
I have never run a DWD before. Are they more durable?

As for mileage, I was just thinking about less fuel costs when hauling smaller loads.
Just wonder how many small vs large trailers are delivered.

I've been looking at used trucks for find a good starter truck to get into rv transport. I've found a nice F450 with under 150k on it dually long bed. Would this size of truck be overkill due to needing to have GCW of 26,000?

I feel a little bigger chassis the better and older the truck will last. Also at what mileage for diesel pickup trucks need to have the engine rebuild?

A 450 would put me over 26,000 as my trailer is 14,000lbs depending on the GVW of the trailer you are pulling may do the same thing to you. A 450 would be a more stable platform is which to pull. I have 573,000 miles on my truck, my oil samples still coming back good and have not had rebuild on engine yet. Be sure the truck's engine is not a 6.0 or 6.4 diesel a lot of issues, the 7.3 is a proven engine. Before you purchase have a mechanic ( a Ford Factory Trained would be preferred, one that is very knowledgable with the 7.3 maybe hard to find) go over the truck, have a oil sample done. I have seen many people go under by buying a truck that has issues.

    Lite bug,

Thanks for your insight, this truck has a 6.4 L engine in it and what I'm looking to do with this truck is deliver new rv transport as a contractor.

How and where do you send your oil sample too get it checked?

Also most of the trucks I'm finding that I feel fit what I'm looking for have the 6-6.4L engine in them. I've only seen a very few 7.3 L engines for sale.

Blackstone Labs in Fort Wayne In. is the one I use, there are a few others. Do a search on the 6.4 powerstroke, I would not be comfortable with it. A Dodge has a better engine 5.9 ( I am a Ford guy) than the 6.4

    Thanks again,

All i can find that are within about 2 hours from where I live are all ford between 2005-2010 with mostly the 6.4L in them and some of the newer ones between 2011-2015 used are too high of a price. I would like to have the Dodge due the engine in them and who makes them too.

I guess I'll keep looking around
