My company has an opportunity to haul coarse road salt. We have 35' tridem aluminum end dumps, I am curious as to what the salt weighs per cubic yard because I want to be sure we can fit enough to max out our 31 ton payload capability. Also we use mesh tarps, which work fine for sand but Ivr never hauled salt. Any information is greatly appreciated.

My company hauls it too! We have tri axles with 1 drop axle to make a total of 4. Good to 117k gross so my rig can take almost 40 ton. Anyways bulk road salt weighs about 1 ton per cubic yard. We use canvas tarps to keep it dry but I think mesh will be fine in dry conditions. Hope this helps

Chevyho Thanks this. -
How much payload can you actually get in your trailer? And what are your dimensions? We are 35' long, 8' wide and 5' high sides.

Salt doesn't pay very good.

Our trailers are 40ft x 8.5 wide X 6 inside height. I don't know what the yardage is on the salt but we max out our permits. Also I'm a company driver so I get paid by the load so it's always different depending on where it's going
