One, check the BOL. Hazmat info must be on top, and listed in the order of shipping name, hazard class, UN number, packing group, for ALL DOT regulated items within the shipment.
Two, check the freight. All packages containing DOT regulated material must have labels matching the class of the material contained therein on at least two opposite sides of the package. These labels must match whatever is listed in the BOL.
Barring that, if neither one is present, then you are legal to haul the load. And, if God forbid any issues should come up regarding the load and it turns out there was DOT regulated material contained within the shipment that was not labled as required, or had nothing listed on the BOL, then it is the SHIPPER who is liable for having falsified a legally binding document.TLeaHeart Thanks this. -

The training is what teaches you to recognize Hazmat or not.
That's why we have to do it.drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
I object to dumping things down to the lowest common denominator but unfortunately we need to.91B20H8 Thanks this. -

It does suck..but it's a part of doing business with Schneider.
We jump through a lot of hoops as IC's..it's a pain but see above.
Only way around it is..Your own authority.
