Should I become a heavy hauler?

I'm burnt out and need a change. I always wanted to try heavy hauling. I worked for an oversized carrier once 1992 but it only lasted for 3 months and turned out to be a bad deal. I have some flat bed experience; coils, bar, flat, tarp etc. I've been a car hauler for a long time and have also done piggy backing. I have been out here 36 yrs and am now 58 and in excellent health according to my doctor. I also have an unblemished driving record. So, are there any opportunities for someone like me?

I see drivers loading up heavy equipment at the port of Dundalk where I load BMW and it sparked my interest.

Lone Star Transportation is a good place to start.
Transport National in Cincinnatti is another.
Many drivers have bragged about how good a company Lone Star Transportation is.

Doesn't Keen run out of Dundalk? Try to get some info on them from one of their drivers. There is probably some info on them here in the carriers section. I was at Wilmington last week and there was a Keen RGN with a wheel loader.

Not trying to be an arse or anything, but according to the regs, heavy equipment is classified as 10000lbs or more. In other words, hauling heavy equipment doesn't mean heavy haul.

Just a heads up so you don't go around like those TMC drivers telling everyone that you are heavyhaul with a 10 wide, legal weight load.

Its hilarious. They're pulling 5 axle trucks, under 80000 lbs, yet they're "heavyhaul." That's like buying a set of dumbells at Wal-Mart and telling everyone that youre Mr Olympia.
