Through reading about Prime I've seen many people downing the company for slow trucks. Even bragging that they make more because they can run faster. Out of curiosity I ran the numbers.
Assuming all trucks run flat out for their entire 11 hour; Prime at 62, Company A at 70, and Company B at 75.
Prime travels 682 miles.
Co. A travels 770 miles.
Co. B travels 825 miles.
Using starting wages of Prime at 43cpm (assuming a LW) and other companies at around 35cpm daily earnings are as shown:
Prime - $293.26
Co. A - $269.50
Co. B - $288.75
Even if Prime ran 58mph for the straight 11 hours: 638 miles, $274.34.
This is just for company drivers obviously but hopefully now Prime drivers can smile and laugh when the CB chatter comes through about moving so slow.
Slow trucks justified with money

Why put other companies at 35 cents? I run at 48 cents per mile. And top at 70. So does prime still make more than me?

I was trying to use starting wages. Of course there are circumstances where you'll make more than this. I think 35cpm is what most company's start at. Or I could've used Werner at 26.

One thing your not looking at is that you dont avg 58mph thur the whole day. Hills and climbs for example will slow you down quicker then someone that has the pep to get up the hill without loosing a ton of speed, There is alot more to it then just the speed of the truck.
I understand why prime wants the trucks to run at that speed, but if I ever did that speed for any extended amount of time I would die of sheer boredom. Maybe this is why I see so many prime drivers with there feet up on the dash as I rip the paint off the doors as I go by them.Midnightrider909, TruckDuo, Raiderfanatic and 1 other person Thank this. -
Your 62mph is like 53mph unless you're running Utah flats all month.
45 cents per mile and a 75mph truck means nothing if your miles suck.Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
Run all the numbers you want....Prime trucks running 60mph. on a 70 or 75mph. road is still a pain in the butt for everyone else they share the road with. But this new narcissistic, "me, me, mine" generation doesn't give a crap about anyone else.
Me, me, mine. Me, mine, me. What can everyone do for me? All about me. Yep....that's the new generation.misterG, TruckDuo, fuzzeymateo and 5 others Thank this. -
