2006 freightliner columbia with a merritor smart shift. The codes that come up are 3D-E7 and SM. Have been too 3 separate shops and none can find the problem. They say the codes are read but are not active. The last shop ohmed all of the shift motors and said the are within specs. These codes come up and the truck may run from 1 to 5 days and then the tranmsmission will not shift. So I am stuck in whatever gear this happens at. Let the truck set for an hour or so and the codes are still there but am able to shift gears. So far this happens only when loaded? Put in a double voltage regulator and a new shift paddlem to no avail. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you

Did the shops hook up the trans to a computer or did they just pull the codes and OHM stuff out, here is a link so you can ck the codes for your self.

when was the last time the trans shift fork was serviced and when was the last time the shift actuator was checked for air leaks. I know the book says the clutch says it never needs service but the fork build up with dust and can casue some issues. I had one issue where a battery was going bad and by dumb luck the tech found it that an a dirty connector. good luck.

Sometimes you have to shut the whole battery system off with the shut-off knob then you wait 10 seconds and then start the startup procedure again in that works. Other times if that fails you pump the brakes push the parking brake in until it pops out then turn it off turn it back on battery cables and that will reset the memory and get it to acknowledge the gears

Sometimes just turning the batteries off and turning them back on will reset your ability to get the transmission to work. Another solution I have found is you park it on the side pump the brakes and push the parking brake and you pump the brakes until all the lair pops of emergency break out turn it off on the battery thing turn it back on wait a second and start start up procedures and then it will go back into neutral and start

Check to see if you're losing air from transmission air tank and if not your xy shifter gets stuck in gear. Get a small hammer and tap the xy shifter and it should work but if tapping xy shifter fixes the issue I would get another xy shifter because the moter gets stuck

2005 Freightliner M2 6.4L with the Mercedes Automatic 6 speed transmission.....5 times in 25,000 miles the transmission module has had to be replaced....would lock up in a gear or sometimes out of gear, which would not engage then..... All while throwing different codes on the dash gauge ...no one can figure out why this happens
