Hello everyone. I've been on the forums for awhile now. I started thinking about driving a truck several years ago. I had a pretty good gig in the oilfield and like a lot of others in that industry have been laid off.

So it's time for me to do something else. I applied at Prime last Monday, had my acceptance letter by Friday.

I have had a class B with hazmat for 15 years now. Will have to upgrade to Class A with tanker. I'm going tanker division

Either wanted flatbed or tanker. Decided I would go with tanker. Just wanted to do something different.

I will try to keep up the post as I go through my training. Any advise or helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tankers seem to get a lot better loads, the deadhead mls for tankers are just ridiculous.

Yeah I asked about the dead head but never really got a definite answer from my recruiter.
I live in Arkansas. Was told I'd be hauling food grade stuff, oils, and he mentioned Hersey's syrup quite a few times.

I'd say I average between 100-125 miles deadhead in flatbed.

I talked to the recruiter today. Asked specifically about deadhead miles. He said company drivers were paid per mile loaded or unloaded.
Is this the truth or a recruiter being a recruiter?

    Thanks

Well I'm 9 days and a wake up from leaving for Springfield.
Talked with my recruiter again this week, everything is still a go.
I'm getting a little nervous about the whole thing now. Its been so long since I have tried something new. Change is not always an easy thing for some of us. I was in the oilfield so long that starting over in a new career field seems so foriegn to me. This week will be a long week filled with anticipation and stress. Im the type that wants to just dive right in, not wait to get it started. I don't know if I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, or someone waiting on the jury to give the verdict.

Definately know that dual feeling. Excitement, but apprehension at same time. Once you get here, think that will pretty much just turn to excitement once you see what we are about.

Good luck & best to you. (Even though your ARE going tanker.) LOL!

After I left the oilfields 2 years ago it took awhile to get used to working long hours . Trucking isn't 6 to 3 with lunches and breaks
