My steering wheel is driving me nuts. When it is turned slightly to the left of straight ahead it has an awful squeek. It does this on interstate curves. It seems to be coming from about 6 inches below the wheel. I took the covers off and had a look, sprayed spots with lubrication, no difference. What am I missing? Truck is an 02 T800. Tilt wheel but no periscope.

Sounds like a shaft bearing. Had a Freightliner and an International do the same thing. Dealer said that the shaft has to be removed and a new bearing pressed on. They were company trucks and out of warranty so company said no as long as not a safety hazard, dealers both said not an immediate hazard so I lived with it. You are right, annoying as nails on a chalkboard.

How big of a job is it removing the shaft?
