I go to Melton orientation 12/7/15....first OTR job. I've been a mechanic all my life and a year ago I decided to drive and worked for UPS as a seasonal Feeder Driver then went to work for a local mahufacturer pulling flatbed, hauling our own products. It's a decent job, good benefits, home nightly but I have always wanted to do OTR. I've done a lot of reading here to answer questions I think of but may be leaning on you guys for information in the near future. Looking forward to the challenge!

Hope it works for you, Tony

Tony, do you have to ride with a trainer? If you do, remember that neither one of you are getting paid to win a popularity contest. You don't have to like the guy. You have to learn from him. If he can do the job, you can learn from him. Keep your business YOUR business.
Al. Roper, Sneakerfix, DonM and 7 others Thank this. -
Good luck!!

They said I'll be riding with a trainer for two weeks....she emphasized this is not team driving though so that, was good to hear. Living with another guy in a truck is the only apprehension I have, but hopefully the two weeks goes quick!

Best of luck to you. Let us know about your progress.

The main thing you're after is the securement training. The company will give you a new regs book, and point out the securement section. While riding with your trainer, he will talk about the loads and securement and stuff like that. Listen carefully. It's what you're here for.johndeere4020 and MJ1657 Thank this. -
Wow, most guys have to start otr and want local jobs. But, whatever makes you happy, good luck.
