    Happy Weekend Truck Drivers,

I seen some of these Chassis owned by Train Yard Companies that used in our Highways are not Road Worthy. The Box and the Tractor are Ok but why the DOT does not apply strong Regulations against them through out the Country, most of the Truck Drivers/Owner Operators suffer and/or get Pulled Over because of these Chassis or like They says too Big to touch.

The reason that the chassis arent road worthy is because of the driver. The driver is responsible for making sure equipment is road worthy b4 leaving the yard. If drivers did their part by reporting what was wrong with equipment when they dropped it at the facility, then that stuff would be red tagged so that the yard jocks dont pull it to the tracks to be loaded with containers. The rail/container yards would do their parts if drivers did theirs. And then on top of that, drivers arent obligated to pull any equipment with maintenance issues. Anything found to be unroad worthy would be fixed if the drivers would take it to shop b4 leaving the yard, but most drivers are either in too big a hurry, getting paid by the load so they cant really afford to wait, or just dont PRETRIP equipment to know whats wrong. I cant tell you how many times I've seen a driver leave the rail with a flat tire, lights not working, etc, all that would be fixed or chassis swapped out if the driver would take out the time to go to the shop and do that.

So, the driver is responsible of the chassis too, then what are all those guys at the train yard wearing the orange vest do, the chassis is their property, the driver has 10 hours driving, as the last hour is dangerous for him to find parking. The Train yards wasting the driver time.

It's like being a company driver, for anyone, if you take the trailer, with obvious defects, then you should be responsible, if you get stopped for non working lights, tires, etc. The way the yards turn chassis, they don't really have the time to inspect EVERY one. But the driver who does pull it should take the time to inspect, and reject, or get fit fixed.
