I am going to ks to look at a used truck. if I decide to buy, besides ins, do i need anything else? temp tag, e.t.c. I have read on here about others, but most was I had no problems, or go around the scales, or the scales waved me thru. just wondering if anyone knew for sure by law whats needed. as I will have to find out the facts myself, thought I would get some good info here.

Insurance and a temp tag doesn't hurt and they are usually cheap and easy to get. If you get pulled in at a scale just remember the words "not for hire". Just say it's yours, you just bought it and you're taking it home.
Knucklehead and heavyhaulerss Thank this. -
They can still do an inspection on the truck to see if it's safe to drive, so make sure it's in good shape, especially brakes, tires and all the lights and turn signals.

You are going through the process of checking it out, you know the dyno, ecm dump and so on with a mechanic inspecting it - I would even go so far to get one to do a really good inspection and then issue you a new annual on it.

Put a large visible "not for hire" on each door. I passed through three different state scales with temp tag, and insurance. Remember you can only bob tail.

All you need is ins. and a temp tag, can't pull a trailer.
you don't need not for hire or any other markings.heavyhaulerss Thanks this. -
6 bucks for two stickers man, throw them on, it will possibly save alot of questions.

You don't need all that insurance and temporary tag stuff. Where is your spirit of adventure? Wait till dark, get you a six pack of P.B.R. to sip on (to take the edge off) and bring that baby back to sweet home Alabama.

I think the right way is to get a temporary movement permit from each state you plan to travel through or maybe just your home state where you will register. Some states do not offer a temp tag if you buy from a private party. Every state has different rules which makes this a confusing mess to do it right.
