I have an tri-PAC on Volvo 780 2007 never had any trouble with the unit untill to day, try to start the unit all I get is a clicking noise under the bunk sounds like some kind of solenoid is sticking, i open the black box where all the wire harness plug into for the APU, the PC board is making all the noise, looks like the relay or an SSR.
Is this an board replacement or just the relay
Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you
Tri-PAC will not start
on the thin edge side of that black box is a reset button, you can try pressing it. Do it while the unit is turned completely off.
Mine had a starting issue that it would click and not start, occasionally, and they ended up putting a ground cable from the unit engine block to the frame, it was a bad, but intermittant ground problem.
By chance do you know where the ground cable is loc. on the APU,#
I also have an 07 780, and ended up running a seperate ground from the frame of the TriPac back to the batteries to resolve a charging issue, The Tripac is supposed to be grounded just from being bolted on, and either that was not good enough, or it had become corroded.
I ran a cable from the unit block to the frame of the TriPac on the left just inside the door to check the oil to solve my starting issue, and then went from that spot back to the tractor batteries to solve the charging problem.
it turn out to be a bad ground on the APU, after cleaned all the cables going to the batteries and back to the frame on the Tri-Pac, she fired right up.
I was just wondering if any one uses an different filter that sit in front of the evaporator unit. The one that's on the unit now is starting to come apart.
Here an update on my tri -PAC
I had to return to Thermo King because the unit in question would not start again, #it turned out that the tech. #never put the ground cable on the starter and attach to the frame of the truck, after five hours of waiting I thought when I have a huge bill, it turned out they just told me to pick up your truck it's done. I talked to technician for about 10 min. I found out that they could not get their laptop to connect to the tri-pak, around about answer they gave me was that they didn't know if the laptop was the problem or the cable was the problem, all I know is they could not raise the voltage up, so the Tri-Pak would turn on earlier before the Volvo turns off all the lights so it can save the battery's.
Dose any one know of dealer ship around Chicago that can rase the start up voltage on the tri-pak.
I have dealt with CSTK in St Louis and ThermoKing in DePeere Wis. both are good shops if you are ever in either of those places.
The other thing to keep an eye on is the kill switch on top of the unit engine. You have to pull the top cover to see it. I have had techs bump it as they were replacing the cover and it would not start. So it could be if that switch was going bad, loose connection, could keep from starting too.
