Just curious as to how much a relatively new driver would expect to take home in a year? I'm assuming there's still decent money to be made in driving. Not too keen on OTR but I would love to try regional/local. I would like to run flatdeck or lowbed but I think I'm probably setting my sights a little high for my experience level. I've held a Class 1 licence for almost 3 years now but have very little experience (mainly road testing trucks/trailers).

    take home is irrelevant

we could both earn the same amount and take home completely different amounts

What kind of factors influence take home pay in trucking? Taxes and EI/CPP deductions should be the same amount for everyone in the same income bracket. Is there something else I'm missing?

taxes, child support, garnishes, how much you claim, insurance, 401k, etc.... regional you should be able to get at least 35-40k starting out.

401k would be the American equivelent to our CPP I'm guessing? $35k-40k gross?

first year yes, maybe even better but that depends on the miles the company has x the miles you can run effectively

You seem like a pretty knowledgeable mechanic, I'd guess if you are working as such, you'd be looking at quite a cut to go down to an entry level driver. Especially with the downturn in the AB economy over the last year or so.

depends a lot what your willing to haul and where, can make up to 70,000 gross, 50,000 take home hauling heavy flatbed work otr, and depends on area and company
