Hey guys, I've got a 2006/07 Pete daycab. CAT C13 430hp, 10 speed with 4.11 rears. I run local but next year may be doing a lot more longer hauls. Right now, I'm taching about 1500-1550rpm running 57ish mph. No big deal being local, truck gets good mpg and pulls like a raped ape. But I did some long hauls this summer and man my mileage was down around 5.5. How much is going to a 13 speed going to help? And do you know what model 13 I will need? Truck only has 308k miles, not looking to re-gear, I like 13 speeds too.
My 10 speed is a model FRO16210C I believe, will double check here in 15 minutes.
Thanks.
Wanting to swap my 10 speed for a 13

The 4:11s are the killer, a 10 speed with OD and a 13 speed with OD will be geared about the same in the OD, not enough of a difference to help.

Okay my 10 speed model is "FRO16210C"
rear ratio 4.11
rear axle models/serial "E1202W HN023633514 RSH40P HNO23633513"
engine C13 CAKCB71167 -
Thanks for the feedback sho tyme, look over my
last post with all my models and numbers to be sure. So are you saying I'd be better off re gearing? What gear ratio would you suggest with that trans if I wanted to be able to run around 60-62mph, with the rpm more around 12-13, but still have pulling power? -
Most highway trucks are in the 3.42-3.55 range.

The real trick to make it work is use the link Old Man posted and run a tall rear gear( lower number) with a direct top gear.

Let's say I want to swap my trany from 10 to 13 gear. Is the 13 speed trany longer than 10 speed. If yes, should I change the driveshaft, for a shorter one?
-
Yes the 13 is longer than the 10. You will need to change the shifter on top. The install is the same the existing clutch will work but with the age of the truck it should at least be dropped and inspected. A new pilot bearing in the flywheel is a must. And with that down check your rear main seal. Route the air lines according to Eaton for your shifter/splitter. Measure for your driveshaft and head down with your old one to the drive line shop and have them cut it down. Install new u joints check your carrier bearing out too. If the new trans has a cooler mount up the cooler lines. Get a 13 with forced lube or what we call halo oil system. You will also need a bell housing as the fro won't work on a rtlo trans. When it is off you will see the halo on the front of the case and the bell housing has a channel to match. The only sticky area I am unsure of is the speed sensor if the one from the fro will fit in an rtlo. But the dealer should be able to figure that out which one will work
Phvbk Thanks this. -
Thank you. Appreciate it.
