Update: the scam appears to start on Facebook, where the scammer claims you've won a contest by liking the TruckersReport Facebook page. Then they move it over to email and ask you to wire them money as a deposit to 'reserve' your prize.

I've recently learned of two people who have been contacted by a scammer claiming they've won a truck giveaway from Ford and TruckersReport. We do not run contests, surveys, or giveaways with any high-value items like a truck as a prize. This is a scam, no such prize exists. An example of the email that was sent is included below.

It's hard to imagine anyone would send money to these guys, but here is what the scammers are writing:

I've heard scammers deliberately use bad grammar and misspellings to filter out skeptical folks. If their initial message is too good then they'll spend all their time talking with people who are going to stop responding when they ask for money.

When it's badly written like this scammer's message, the only people who reply are those who are more easily fooled/willing to believe. The scammers are then able to focus their attention on these vulnerable targets.

I won a bicycle once.. yay

I wouldn't believe a word of it because of the way it's written. I collaborated with the scammers claiming I have a inheritance waiting in Africa.
