Waterspout damages truck near Skyway Bridge in Tampa

TAMPA — A waterspout near the Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge damaged a U.S. Postal Service contractor's tractor-trailer rig. There were no reports of injuries, but video of the on-land waterspout has been getting
    a lot of attention online.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the rig driven by 56-year-old Randall Leaver was overtaken by the waterspout as it approached the Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay on Interstate 275.

Leaver was headed northbound in the right lane of I-275 near mile marker 7 when the funnel-shaped column of wind and water mist approached from the west, crossing the roadway.

The truck was lifted and turned onto its right side, then picked up a second time and placed upright. Leaver remained inside the vehicle and was not injured.

At the same time, a nearby construction site was damaged, a small boat was overturned, and multiple signs were knocked over.

Thats a very common area to see water twisters too.

I was at the toll booth and happened to glance over at 2 twin water spouts dancing over the water. I told the booth operator and she was like,.. "Oh yeah,.. I see those all the time".

Not being the kind of guy to test how close they would come,.. I haul tail as fast as I could over the bridge.

Seen them a few more times as I crossed the bridge. Never seen one actually come close to it. Usually they're way out in the bay.

And in further news, the driver received CSA points for failure to control a CMV properly. It's always the driver's fault, according to the DOT. They find life easier that way, otherwise they might have to actually THINK, and their tiny little pinheads might explode from the exertion.

@Vito, I do hope that was posted tongue-in-cheek. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. Whatever, that driver is lucky to still be walking around on his hind feet, and what a story he has to tell. Must have been one hell of a ride though.
