You can do a 34 every week or run off recap just depends what kind of outfit you work for.
astracat111 and Holdthec Thank this. -
Is that something you can find out about a company pre-employment? I signed up for CDL school and will begin classes soon so im kind of clueless

It's possible, but there's really no point.
You'd essentially have to turn down loads if you chose to reset when ya don't have to. The company probably wouldn't like a reset every week if you're OTR, because it's wasting time... Each company has their own policy and you'll have an idea of how they run during orientation. -
For a while they restricted us to one 34 hour break in 7 days. I mean you could do multiple ones but only one counted. That has changed and you can do a 34 hour break every other day if you wanted and it resets your 70 over and over no restriction.
I try to run closer to 10 hours a day 7 days a week then take 17-30 hours off and pick up 10 hours a day for the next 7 days so a '24' give or take hours off is equivalent to 34 hours off. -
In ten years of trucking, I have had to do exactly one 34 hour restart and that was very early in my career. I did it in Morgantown West Virginia (Don Knotts hometown). Coming out of driving school, I had the idea that 34 hour restart were the norm. It is one of the many things that get screwed into your head that are wrong.

As mentioned above. 34 is not required and you can do as often as you want to reset your 70 clock.
Good luck -

I'm home every weekend. Usually from Friday night till Sunday night or Monday morning. So yes my dispatchers want us to get a 34 weekly, but most times I get more than 34. Just how our freight runs, so they bring us back home for a 34. I've never had to take one on the road luckily.
