HOUSTON - A big rig slammed into a bridge Wednesday morning in northwest Houston and its load got stuck underneath.
Crews closed the connecting ramp from Highway 290 to the 610 North Loop and the HOV lane.
"It's clearly marked. The bridges. The height. They're clearly marked. He should've looked up before even passing," Muhamad
Police said the driver hit the Highway 290 HOV bridge and its empty tank became lodged in the concrete , causing severe damage. A driver in a red truck hit him from behind.
"He's way off his permitted route and that's why there's a low clearance bridge, as well as some power lines that he struck further back," Sgt. G.T. Hall, with the HPD Accident Division, said.
"(Motorists) will have to take the 290 main lanes and they can expect heavy congestion on their route home this afternoon," Karen Othon, with the Texas Department of Transportation, said. "I know it's going to be frustrating. I know it's going to be hard, but safety first."
Paramedics took the driver of the red truck to the hospital with chest pains. The driver of big rig was not hurt, but could face several citations

Bet you money the driver was recently hired and hired "for cheap". You get what you pay for when dealing with jobs that require an exceptional level of professionalism.
That mistake is going to cost several parties a lot of money and livelihood.NavigatorWife, Toomanybikes, passingthru69 and 4 others Thank this. -
A friend of mine recently missed one turn with a load that was 16' tall. He saw a bridge coming up that was too low so he stopped and called the PD and they came out and helped him back up to where he could get back on route. No citation, they were just glad he was looking ahead and didnt make a mess like this guy did.NavigatorWife, dancecanyon and Dominick253 Thank this. -

The truck driver is probably going to be terminated from his job, lose his CDL, and be in the legal system for quite awhile. Lord willing that he does not get sent to prison.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!NavigatorWife and CrappieJunkie Thank this.
