As for Star they were up and down since 2007 and beyond I don't think anyone expected them to make it very far after the 2008 housing market crash I know pretty much after 2008 they were on borrowed time. I think everyone knew eventually they were going to go under and that's just what happened, they were taken over by Swift. From what it sounds like they were not the best run company post 2008 they were pretty much just trying to stay alive, but the ship was sinking and they got out boxed and out competitioned and I think also in that time leading up to the Swift take over Caterpillar stopped making truck motors? And the Caterpillar factory in Morton, IL which used to be all Star Trailers suddenly started filling up with CRST trailers and that was pretty much that. I guess while Cat was still making truck motors they felt obligated to use carriers who used there motors and every Star truck had a kitty cat under the hood. Well the minute they stopped making truck motors, they didn't feel so obligated any more and from what I know when a big McMegga quotes a perspective new client they quote them on production out put and I'm sure it was just a matter of who is the biggest and out of the biggest who is the cheapest and CRST is one of the biggest and they were probably cheapest out of Werner, Schneider, Swift and Celedon oh I suppose you could throw JB Hunt in there, but JB Hunt man there not doing the whole truck load thing any more like they used too, that's all Intermodal now there pretty much doing dedicated and Intermodal and stuff like that.

If I remember, Star had a couple of pretty bad wrecks, possibly fatalities. One was going up Hy. 26 near Rosendale which was pretty ugly, and I believe one driver going around the Plainfield scale in Wis. hit a stopped school bus.

Star leased all their trailers and Swift had to return them all to the lease company when they took them over. why ya don't see em anymore.

That would be the reason, Star always had what looked to be decent trailers. At any rate though thanks for the Info.
FAB Express from Illinois does a lot of hauling for a large cardboard manufacturer here in Northeast, Ohio and a lot of there trailers have the Star Transport ghost markings on them.

The ownership of Star must have retired then and called it a career, unless they went and started another trucking company somewhere else, but probably not.
