It just becomes a topic for a new group of people. Kinda makes more sense to resurrect an old thread than to start a new one about the exact same thing.

    ramblingman and Lepton1 Thank this.

The schools tell you 12k on steers because that's all that is left if your 34 on trailer and drives. Steer rating goes by components up to 20k depending on state. If you have 12k rated tires and a 14k your specific truck is rated for 12k unless you change tires. If you have a 13k steer axle with 14k steer tires it's 13k. Lowest rated component makes the rules.

    Disagree.

After a year or so might as well start a new thread.
What happens people sometimes don't realize it's old and try to respond to the Op.
Then everybody else tries to respond also since it's easy enough to miss the date(s).

20k. I know because I've driven trucks with 20k steers. Rides rough a heck though. Some states have different laws limiting it though.

I used to drive a concrete semi truck. Landing gear was so far forward you had to have the fifth wheel all the way back over the last axle. Any little bit of rain, you'd slide around like crazy. Now I put as much weight as I can on the steers. Same with the booster straight trucks. Once you lift that booster you have maybe 6k on the steers and it gets worse the more weight you have on. Offroading was fun with 50k on the drives and nothing on the steers. Good times.

Although it's generally 12,000 if you have an APU then you can I believe have 12,400.
This is assuming a standard tractor, not designed for heavy hauling.

Wow, it's amazing how many Super Truckers are on here that think everyone should already know everything.
We all have to start somewhere, so please come down off that horse and enlighten us.
I for one would appreciate it.
