Got nothing to do with ham, its just the real raw truth. Sure, hams don't usually start turning screws, snippin' an clippin' diodes right out of the box, but the other professional radio services (Part 90 commercial) don't do it either. They DO program the sets for the frequencies to be used (police, fire, rescue, etc) but they don't start trying to make the thing do more than its designed to do. The resulting interference to other services would attract all the wrong sort of attention where radio is so deeply depended upon for police and life-saving. Again, much of these illegal and unnecessary mods are simply psychological and accomplish little real result other than to feed egos!

To the CBer, "loud n proud" is driven by one thing: to be LOUD-ER than the next guy. He hasn't studied, or seen a scope, where such changes cause the audio envelope begins to have "fuzz" instead of sharp, clear sound. On top of that, now the fuzz is now DECREASING the audio effectiveness, and also reducing the usefulness of the signal. Plus, this fuzz begins to spin off and attach itself to other signals. And these spurs may show up 1, 2, 3, 4 steps higher or lower than the mean frequency (harmonics). Other radio users may hear this as an underlying "chuff" or static, which degrades THEIR ability to hear as well, But, that doesn't matter, right--so long as the CB guy is "loud n' proud" and stompin' mud ducks. That's his claim to fame!!!! Bottom line? For the dollar spent, little is gained other than psychological salve!!!!Turbo-T and Neverready Thank this. -
Typical mentality from what I've seen.

When you talk about re-tuning or tweaking a radio, why do some immediately have a conniption fit? It can be done effectively and without making your radio obnoxious. It has always been done, it will always be done, and to make long posts against something that never has or never will change is akin to doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result!

Its all elementary Watson its all elementary. Dr Phil "Well you see what we have here is a failure to communicate" Dr MLK "I have a dream that one day all people will be judged not by the size of their radio but on the content of there hearts and minds" Martha Stewart " If i had a decent radio I'd of been able to clearly communicate my trading strategies with my broker" Elma Fudd " Calling all hunters calling all hunters we're hunting wabbits."
