Before adding the generator, On mild nights, I cool the sleeper before shutting off the engine and the ac just runs on the inverter all night. I have a low voltage buzzer set up at 12.3 volts and it would shut off ac if it went below that. So just the inverter would run ac without truck running.
The ac would only run continuously for about 3 hours like that, then I would need to start the truck, but 5hrs idling was better than 8.
Now that I have generator, I just fire it up and allow generator to idle all night.Terry270 and Dominick253 Thank this. -
I have a Honeywell 3250 gen mounted on the frame on my flat. Run an LG 8000 btu portable a/c 5 straight nights last week on 9 gallons of gas. One big downside to the portable is condensation when its really humid.
Woke up Saturday morning with water all over my floor. Otoh, unexpectedly putting your bare feet in 65 degree water will get you fully awake and alert without the need for caffeine. I now have a plastic undertray for the unit.Terry270, Dominick253, CruisingAlong and 3 others Thank this. -
The inverters throw off heat which is antithetical to using an a/c. Gens are cheap. I ran window unit on 3000 W peak inv. just to see. Inv makes lots of heat and runs 3 batteries down fast. Stick to a gen or shore power.

Not good for your batteries either .

I Tried The AC in passenger window last night. Didn't have it sealed off well so it didn't cool down as well as a I thought. It was last minute and the trucks AC should be fixed instead. Looked for a cheaper fix bc the AC problem seems to be electrical. Mechanics already spent 4 hours without finding problem.
I don't like the older truck idling at 200° all night so I decided to sleep in my own sweat like I've done all summer.
